The picturesque and historic village of Reeth is around a 5-10 minute car ride away, it is situated between Swaledale and Arkengarthdale and has many amenities including The Swaledale Museum, quaint shops, pubs and tearooms dotted around the triangular village green.  There is also a local market held weekly on a Friday.

In May and June Reeth holds the Swaledale Festival, a two week event with local musicians and guided walks.  At the end of August there is the Reeth Show which is an agricultural event bringing local farmers and producers to the village.  Surrounded by truly glorious countryside of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the starting point of several best walks this is a fantastic destination for those who enjoy walking.

For the outdoor enthusiasts the wild, rugged and varied scenery provides miles of walks, with low-level, gentle strolls along the river, and more challenging walks with high mountains and valleys lined with streams. There are endless footpaths where you can enjoy spectacular scenery. Online there are many Ordnance Survey maps that are available. The area is increasingly popular with cyclists and there are many bridleways too. The ‘Swale Trail’ runs from nearby Grinton to Keld and is ideal for families. The Dales Bike Centre is just down the road at Grinton which offers cycle hire, and they also have an excellent café where you can enjoy a piece of cake before setting off on your ride.  The Village Inn, The Punch Bowl Inn, a Stone Inn dated 1638 is within a 5 minute stroll away and you will be met with a warm welcome from the owners. They serve wonderful traditional pub food and they have an amazing position on the hill above  the Swale River.  A perfect way to relax after an adventurous day and enjoy good local ales and traditional food.

The historic town of Richmond, famous for its castle, Georgian theatre and abundance of individual shops and tea rooms, is around 30 minutes’ drive There is also a Tesco supermarket which does online deliveries. In the opposite direction is Barnard Castle, which can also be reached in 30 minutes’, and has a market, cafés, antique shops and the famous Bowes Museum. The Forbidden Corner in Middleham is 13 miles away in Wensleydale, and is hugely popular with families. It is a quirky venue with its labyrinth of caves, folly and underground caverns. Picturesque Aysgarth Falls and Castle Bolton are en-route with many other pretty picture postcard villages as you pass through.
